Road Finds: Junkin' in Chamblee

Let me first start by saying that I was destined to be a junk store lover - both sides of my family love finding a good deal or searching for the perfect piece to revamp. That said, every time I find myself needing to kill time in Atlanta, I love to go junkin' with my aunt. Chamblee, one of the suburbs on the Northeast side of the city has a great little collection of antique and junk stores. Here are the three we hit on my most recent trip:

My Favorite Place
No really, it will be your favorite place when you see all of  the great things they have. As my aunt says, it's hit or miss. Since the inventory is constantly changing, you can sometimes go time and time again and find something you like; other times you don't find much of anything.

I can just picture this painted out with a neutral color and the trim and interior painted a bold contrasting color.
Lately I've been in love with typewriters - I'm not sure why. This one would be great as a pop art accessory painted in a pastel and displayed in an office bookcase - must be the inner journalism student in me! (and the inner hipster!)
These stools were funky and would make for great modern bar stools. They also have a little barber shop / ice cream shop vibe if you ask me.
There is just something great about a collection of colored glass bottles. With my small apartment, I love the idea of using them for a windowsill flower display like this.
GOLD! - really loving it lately; more to come in my room makeover.
I'm becoming more attuned to furniture that has "good bones." When you start with a beautiful shape, there's nothing a great fabric and re-upholstery job can't fix!

Vintage Antiques
Exact words out of my mouth: "When I get married, don't buy me china, just get me something from here." This shop makes me think I was born in the wrong era. I couldn't get enough of the funky furniture and unique 'modern' accessories.

TV set with a bubble-like screen - reminiscent of The Jetsons, anyone?

Another "good bones" piece.

My partner in crime checking out a great retro fan.
I've seen these used a lot in edgier interiors, like this dining room.
What a bookcase! (And, yes, they do hang furniture from the ceiling - crazy fun, right?)
My first reaction is 'this looks like something out of a Charlie's Angels movie,' but minus the shag throw, I think it would make for a great (not to mention comfy and chic) couch for a loft space.

Antique Gallery
Not a destination by itself, but if you're going to the other two, you'll pass this one in between and can sometimes find a few gems.

These milk glass accessories reminded me of the Ikea accents my brother and I picked out for his home office. The hobnail vases also remind me of some great Anthropologie accessories here and here that my mom, my sister-in-law, and I all love.

This piece stopped me because it reminded of this unique decoration by a former co-worker.

If you're still reading after all of those pictures, thanks! Last, but not least, these are the fun pieces that were actually in this dreamers budget - a fun and curvy pitcher and a small mirror with great details. Check back soon to see how I'm going to incorporate them into my room re-do!

Interior Design Wake Up Call (and a little bit of bragging!)

Ever since my birthday a few weeks ago, life has seemed crazy – busy, chaotic, and non-stop. For some reason it usually takes me pushing myself to my limits, until I’m completely exhausted, to realize that I need to take a little time to relax and do the things I love. Interior design is that calming escape for me. My latest wake-up call was seeing the last photo shoot I helped on at Southern Living get published in the June 2011 issue and unexpectedly finding my byline on a Coastal Living web gallery. Sometime we all need a reminder of what drives us, so excuse the bragging just this once!
